Do you need a simple checklist to write SEO blog posts that can be easily optimized for search engines?

Here are 6 simple steps to follow, so it’s really easy to understand how to write SEO blog posts.

If your blog posts are well-written and easy to optimize for search engines, your website is far more likely to be found online. Better search engine optimization (SEO) = higher ranking in search results, and more clicks through to your website!

Make sure your users find you on search engines by following these 6 steps for every blog post you write:

1. Choose the keyword you want your blog post to rank for

  • Think about the search intent someone may have when searching this keyword.
  • Search this keyword on Google and examine search results.
  • Ask yourself:
    • Does your blog post you plan to write fit in with the other results?
    • Can you write a better post than the top 3 results?
    • Will your blog post answer the search intent of the person searching?

This keyword will be the TARGET KEYWORD of the blog post you’re going to write.

2. When deciding what to write, ask yourself

  • What do you want to tell your readers, or what question do you want to answer for them?
  • What’s the purpose of writing your blog post?
  • What do you want your readers to do at the end of your post?

3. Follow a proven blog post structure by including

  • An introduction (introduce your topic).
  • A body (write your main message – this could be multiple paragraphs).
  • A conclusion (summarize the main ideas or draw a conclusion).

Very Important: Include your target keyword in each of these blog post sections. (Don’t include it in every paragraph, but make sure it’s in the introduction, body, and conclusion.)

4. Use subheadings and paragraphs

  • Subheadings help readers to scan your page.
  • Include your target keyword in some of the headings and paragraphs.

5. Use related keywords

One of the ways Google understands the topic of your text is by recognising synonyms and other keywords that are related to your focus keyword.

6. Aim for medium-length articles

  • Make sure your blog posts have a minimum of 300 words.
  • In general, the average web page that ranks on page 1 of Google contains 2200 words.

PRO TIP: Aim to write a new blog post every 2 weeks. Keep this in mind when deciding on post length. If you burn yourself out by writing too much at a time, you might delay writing your next blog post.

Know what Google is looking for when you write SEO blog posts

When writing blog posts for your website, you must understand the type of content that Google is looking for, and what it chooses to rank in its search results.

Google uses E-E-A-T to score content on websites. These factors are used to determine the quality of content and to ensure that websites provide accurate, reliable, and trustworthy content:

  • Expertise
  • Experience
  • Authoritativeness
  • Trustworthiness

E-E-A-T is centered around trust and helps to evaluate the performance of the search ranking systems, making sure that the content is unique and beneficial for people. To improve your E-E-A-T score, it’s essential to create:

  • Original and helpful content.
  • Avoid duplicating content.
  • Include relevant and high-quality images and videos to enhance the user experience and credibility of the blog.
  • Add a personal touch by including your own experience and insights.

Also ensure your content is written by experts in your field, and is authoritative and trustworthy.

(Please Note: Not adhering to Google’s rules, and/or using too much AI content, will likely negatively impact your search rankings.)
